Is it Aussie rules or REAL Aussie rules? What is it you want to be right about Svender?

soldo, you au fait with Yank sports, how are you with the double switch rule was in baseball, I suppose for most people it's like the offside rule to people who don't follow football?

Re: Northern Monkey Rugby
Your logic has deserted you there, SURFY

The series results were shared over the years and the AFL players were basically asked to play the Irish at Gaelic football.
Obviously THEIR game with THEIR ball against presumably the best exponents of it in the world.
Its a different game not 'easier' especially with a completely unfamiliar ROUND ball.
The idea of reversing it and asking Gaelic players to deal with an oval ball on a massive pitch like the MCG would be utterly nonsensical.
Unfair and dangerous once the Gaelic players used to almost a touch rugby style game took a few proper tackles.

It would be similar to the New York Yankees challenging Essex CC to a mixed rules game and saying we will use baseballs & baseball bats on a diamond with pitching (ie throwing) allowed.

Re: Northern Monkey Rugby
Rules in Rugby are not that difficult… I started playing at 10 and came from a council estate and I got them… yeah sometimes RU refs might get a decision wrong but they get far far less wrong than the so called easy to follow Association Football… you either get them or you don’t… I got a MATE who no matter how many times we watch a game he just has not got a clue… rest of us… including the women can pick the vast majority of what is going and why certain pens are given… yet my fick cunt mate is constantly questioning `what happened there’??? Very easy to just say a sport is shit if you don’t understand the rules… I used to be the same with all the Yank sports… love them now…

Sven

If AFL is so much more difficult than the GAA game, how come the Aussies keep losing the matches that are, presumably, so easy for them?

"'The problem with Rugby Union is that NO CUNT ACTUALLY KNOWS THE RULES. Watch how many times the whistle goes and no cunt in the entire stadium apart from the ref knows what the fuck it was for. What a load of shit."'

Exactly and makes the game a lottery.

Union is a tedious game for tedious people.

Yet is is far more universally played in a. This country and b. The World... I wonder why that is??

"in football it's still rared for a blatant stupid penalty to be awarded. In rugby they have a least 5 a game."

That's because a penalty can be given anywhere on a rugby pitch, not just in some small rectangle.

Union is a tedious game for tedious people. The entertainment is what goes on off the pitch.

Can't get into AFL despite being surrounded by it. The AFLW is on now. No escaping it.

To me league is real rugby. I go whenever I can when in Australia. It's the only sport I watch that makes me want to jump the fence and join in, though I know it wouldn't last long if they let me.

The A League has just started here. I might go to see Melbourne Victory for a football fix. But Australian sport always has a shit atmosphere.

Loved rugby league back in the day on Grandstand. Wigan and Martin "Chariots" Offiah and then later London Bronco's with all the Aussie imports. Bizarrely I was asked to design the Opta stats for RL. I turned it down, but being asked is what counts!

Re: Northern Monkey Rugby
Think your normal level of PEDANTLY tediousity is failing you here SURFIE

Gaelic football is played with a round ball on a rectangular pitch of about 130m x 80m with minimal or no physical tackling. 15 players a side incl a goalkeeper
AFL is played with a oval ball (moves quicker through the air, harder to gather catch & control) on an oval shaped ground (think MCG which is 171m long & 146m wide) & tackling between shoulders & knees is a vital part of the game. 18 players a side with no goalkeeper

Understand in the International Rules series over the years (10 series wins each) the 'game' was played with a ROUND ball on a GAELIC rectangular pitch, with 15 a side (incl a keeper) with a bit of tackling allowed .... ie gaelic in all but name

Think the countries lost interest .... the 2020 didnt happen because of COVID & there is no sign of a 2022 series.

Re: Northern Monkey Rugby
Sven, you knob.

Gaelic Football and AFL are essentially the same game. They even have a yearly play-off between the two countries to see who is best at it - whatever it is.

At least they used to until Ireland kept winning it.

Re: Northern Monkey Rugby
Yes, Dan Cole is ideally built for what his job is ..... running into other big fat men

To each their own .... some like this basic war like game where two armies face each other and try and force each other back.
Once in a while a passing move breaks out and someone runs and displays some fancy ball handling and passing.

Personally I prefer another game which involves running , agility and ball skills with hand and foot. There are rugby players (freaks) like Wilkinson & O'Driscoll who COULD have adapted to being maybe a useful half back flanker in AFL.
A fair number of Irish players with a round ball GAELIC football background have been able to adapt to AFL .... this years champions had two Irish players who became the second and third ever Irish players to win a premiership.

The good news is of course that if AFL & NRL didnt exist in Australia all those players might be playing union.
And you'd be complaining like in League that THEY WIN THE WORLD CUP ALL THE TIME
Be grateful!

The problem with Rugby Union is that NO CUNT ACTUALLY KNOWS THE RULES. Referees allow some stuff some weeks and not other weeks, players do really dumb shit because they are either super thick or dont know the rules. Watch how many times the whistle goes and no cunt in the entire stadium apart from the ref knows what the fuck it was for. What a load of shit.
